Nominate Yourself for the AAFP Board of Directors
At the 2023 Congress of Delegates in Chicago, the Congress revamped the process by which candidates for the AAFP Board of Directors and officer candidates are selected. The new process involves a nominating committee, which is tasked with identifying needed skillsets among AAFP leadership. The first chair of the nominating committee, serving a three-year term, is former AAFP president Reid Blackwelder, MD, FAAFP, of Tennessee.
In the past, candidates for AAFP leadership usually required the blessing of their state chapters. The new process eliminates that hurdle, as the nominating committee is accepting applications directly from AAFP members. (The application portal is open now through Feb. 15.)
“We need your voices and views, your experiences and perspectives, your passion and energy,” Blackwelder wrote on a recent AAFP Leader Voices Blog post. “We are committed to bring to the Congress of Delegates a group of candidates who represent the depth and breadth of family medicine, from all venues where we care for our patients and communities. As always, the Congress will decide which candidates best represent its needs at the moment, but strong choices are essential. Please consider stepping into this opportunity.”
