Help AAFP Advocate in the Other Washington Through Speak Outs

Speak Outs make it easy to contact your lawmakers on matters important to the family medicine and primary care. AAFP’s advocacy staff in Washington, DC, identify key points at which your voice is needed.

Upon loading the Speak Out, users are presented with background information that explains the reason for the Speak Out and provides high-level talking points. On the right side of the page are names and photos of your congressional delegation (Sen. Maria Cantwell, Sen. Patty Murray, and your representative in the House) and editable text to send to the delegation. Sample text is provided, and users are encouraged to customize the letter to include your experiences.

You must be logged into the AAFP website to use the Speak Out.

Once you send a message through Speak Out, you will automatically be alerted to future opportunities. Just because you regularly receive AAFP communications does not mean you regularly receive Speak Out alerts!

The most recent Speak Out identified policies to advance the practice of family medicine. The letter focused on four core issues, including recognizing the value of primary care; reducing administrative burden; increasing and sustaining the primary care workforce; and improving health care.

For every new Congress and presidential administration, it’s important to ensure AAFP priorities are considered. However, AAFP leadership and staff cannot do this alone. It takes all of us. Your voice is critical.

Please stay engaged and help us make tomorrow’s family medicine the specialty we all believe it can be.
