Field Scholarship Fund Names 2024 Recipients

Paul Amoreno, Evangelina Olivera, Aly Vyhmeister, and Jeffrey Weyand, MD, are the 2024 winners of the Dr. Burr Field Scholarship.

Amoreno and Olivera are currently students at the Osteopathic College of Medicine at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima. Vyhmeister is a current student at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, which Weyand is a 2024 graduate of EFSCOM. Weyand is currently an intern at the Family Medicine Residency Spokane’s rural training track in Colville.

“The board was unanimous in awarding scholarships to these four medical students. Each scholarship recipient has seen first-hand the positive impact of rural family medicine physicians can have in their community,” said Carl Field, board president of the Dr. Burr Field Scholarship Fund, according to the Yakima Herald.

Dr. Field was a longtime family physician in Prosser. After his death in 2015, his family honored him by establishing a scholarship fund to support medical students who intend to practice in rural areas.
