AAFP Now Accepting Commission Nominations

The window to submit your application for one of AAFP’s eight commissions is now open. Those eight commissions play a key role in operationalizing the work of the national academy, whether it is suggesting action to the Board of Directors or enacting referrals from the Board or one of AAFP’s policymaking bodies.

The eight commissions and their areas of jurisdiction are:

  • Commission on Continuing Professional Development: COCPD focuses on CME. AAFP’s continuing educational opportunities and AAFP’s accreditation system both fall under the auspices of the COCPD.
  • Commission on Federal and State Policy: CFSP guides AAFP’s advocacy efforts at the federal level as well as how it supports chapters in state advocacy.
  • Commission on Education: COE is concerned AAFP’s policies and projects concerning learners, whether they are medical students or family medicine residents.
  • Commission on Health of the Public and Science: CHPS, often pronounced “chips”, works on the vast overlap between public health and family medicine. The commission also oversees work done by the Subcommittee on Clinical Recommendations and Policies (SCRP), which evaluates proposed and current clinical preventive service guidelines to determine relevance and value to members and patients.
  • Commission on Finance and Insurance: CFI oversees the Academy’s financial performance, budget, investments, and member insurance services. As such, it works closely with the AAFP Board.
  • Commission on Membership and Member Services: CMMS guides the Academy’s membership efforts, including recruitment and retention, member value, member services, life-stage career issues, special needs, AAFP awards, and other areas.
  • Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness in Family Medicine: Through its work, CDEI-FM applies diversity, equity, inclusiveness, and antiracism lenses to AAFP’s work as a means to promoting health equity, reducing health inequities, and improve patient-centered care.
  • Commission on Quality and Practice: CQP works to improve practice conditions, whether through reducing administrative burden, increasing reimbursement, or a host of other issues confronting practicing family physicians.

To apply, visit AAFP’s website. Under the “For commission members” header, click on the link for “Commission member nomination form”. You will be asked to complete a form, submit a photo, and complete a conflict of interest/disclosure form.

The application window closes Oct. 15.
