WAFP Foundation Student & Resident Retreat: Travel Advisory

The annual WAFP Foundation Student and Resident Retreat will be held Jan. 24-25 in Leavenworth. If you’re attending and you’re from Western Washington, be aware that US-2 is closed for 49 miles from Leavenworth west over Stevens Pass to Skykomish. On Dec. 16, Gov. Bob Ferguson announced that US-2 would be closed for “months”.

The recent heavy rains have flooded portions of US-2, while part of the road was washed out in Tumwater Canyon, just west of Leavenworth.

“We’re going to do everything we possibly can to repair it as quickly as possible, but it’s literally underwater at some stages,” Ferguson said, according to KING-5. “There are major, major issues on that highway.”

With the North Cascade Highway (SR-20) closed for winter, the best bet for getting to Leavenworth is via I-90. Take I-90 east over Snoqualmie Pass to exit 85 near Cle Elum. Follow SR-970 east to US-97 north over Blewett Pass. At the junction, follow US-2 west through Peshashtin and into Leavenworth.
