Respiratory season is here!
Two options to protect babies from severe RSV (most babies only need one, not both):
RSV monoclonal antibody: AAP recommends a single dose of Beyfortus (nirsevimab) for:
- All infants younger than 8 months born during or entering their first RSV season.
- Infants and children aged 8 through 19 months who are at increased risk of severe RSV disease and entering their second RSV season:
- Children with chronic lung disease of prematurity
- Children who are severely immunocompromised
- Children with severe cystic fibrosis
- American Indian and Alaska Native children
- Usually given October through March
RSV vaccine during pregnancy: CDC recommends a single dose of Abrysvo (RSVpreF) for:
- All individuals when 32 through 36 weeks pregnant
- Usually given September through January
