HRSA Now Accepting Applications for National Health Service Corp Loan Repayments

Allopathic and osteopathic family physicians working in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) can now apply for loan repayment assistance through the federal Health Resources & Services Administration.

The FY25 application is open through Thursday, May 1, at 4:30 p.m. Pacific.

There are three loan repayment programs, and the HRSA website explains the differences between each.

The HRSA website also has more information on primary care HPSA shortage areas in Washington. Specific census tracks are listed, but the general areas that are geographic HPSAs include:

  • Clallam County (West)
  • Clark County (North)
  • Darrington (Snohomish County)
  • Eatonville/Roy (Pierce County)
  • Enumclaw (King County)
  • Ferry County
  • Garfield County
  • Grant County (Lower)
  • Island County
  • Jefferson County (West)
  • Kitsap County
  • Lincoln County
  • Longbranch (Pierce County)
  • Lopez Island (San Juan County)
  • Monroe/Sultan (Snohomish County)
  • Orcas Island (San Juan County)

In addition to geographic HPSAs, there are HPSAs tied to specific patient populations, including unhoused patients, seasonal workers, migrant farmworkers, Native patients, and Medicaid-eligible patients. The HRSA website has more information.
