AAFP Updates from the Other Washington

AAFP staff in Washington, DC, is constantly working to enhance family medicine in the halls of Congress and with whomever is occupying the White House. Though it may not always be visible, AAFP staff maintains productive relationships with Congress and key federal agencies, such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Each month, the AAFP publishes Family Medicine Advocacy Rounds, a rundown of their work to advance family medicine in DC. In November’s edition, for instance, AAFP explained key changes to the 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule; changes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program; AAFP leader meetings on Capitol Hill; advocacy against the increasing prevalence of downcoding; and work to preserve Affordable Care Act tax credits.

To read full FM Advocacy Rounds, look on WAFP’s homepage in the “Stay Current” portion of the “Engagement & Impact” section. The link in the third item will always lead to the most recent Advocacy Rounds. (A new edition is released near the end of each month.)

You can also have the Advocacy Rounds delivered to your email. Email WAFP’s director of external affairs, Brian Hunsicker, to be added to the monthly distribution list.
