Karen Johnson, PhD, most recently with the Washington Health Alliance, has joined the AAFP as the new vice president of the Division of Practice Advancement.
Johnson served as the director of performance improvement and innovation at the Seattle-based Washington Health Alliance, of which WAFP is a member. Prior to her time at WHA, Johnson worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City. The move marks a return to the Midwest for Johnson; AAFP is headquartered in Leawood, KS, in the western suburbs of Kansas City.
“We are thrilled to welcome Karen to the AAFP, where she works with our family physician members to tackle pressing practice management issues head on,” Stephanie Quinn, AAFP senior vice president for advocacy, practice advancement and policy, said in a press release. “She is an advocate for smart policies that achieve high-quality, affordable care for patients, as well as fair and equitable payment for the physicians who provide it.”
