Washington State Medical Commission 2017 Conference: Interspecialty Care of Addiction and Pain
The Medical Commission 2017 conference will address the need for Interspecialty Care of Addiction and Pain. Attendees should gain knowledge and develop strategies for:
- Integrating long term pain management into the primary care setting.
- Constructing a multidisciplinary team to address and treat long term pain.
- Examining the relationship between opioid use in states with legalized medical marijuana and contrast addiction and prescription use in those states where medical marijuana is not legalized.
- Assess practice patterns frequently associated with problematic opioid prescribing.
- Discuss current approaches to identifying and re-mediating problematic prescribing behaviors.
The event will be held twice: Wednesday, Oct. 4 and again on Thursday, Oct. 5. Both days are at the same location: the Radisson Hotel Seattle Airport, 18118 International Blvd. in Seattle. The event is free.
The WSMA designates this live activity for a maximum of 10 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Ongoing: Suicide Prevention Online CME
Kaiser Permanente is offering a free six-hour course on suicide prevention for physicians and physician assistants; osteopathic physicians and osteopathic physician assistants; licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, and advanced registered nurse practitioners; naturopaths; social workers, and mental health providers.
Washington law stipulates that certain health care providers, including physicians and osteopathic positions, must receive six hours of training in suicide prevention. This course is listed on the Department of Health’s 2017 Model List.

October 27, 2017: Washington Vaccine Update

The Washington Vaccine Update will be held Friday, October 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Westin Seattle. This clinically focused event is expected to cover recent outbreaks in the state, what’s new in immunizations and communicating with vaccine-hesitant parents, among other topics.
The cost to attend is $100 before 5 p.m. on Oct. 17. If the event is not sold out prior to the start, on-site registration will be available for $150. Registration includes continuing education credits, breakfast, snacks, lunch and a hosted afternoon reception.
