The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is the agency overseeing standards for testing and licensing of commercial motor vehicle drivers including:

  • Interstate carriers of commerce supplies and hazardous materials
  • Interstate private motor carriers transporting passengers

In addition to rigorous training, individuals who wish to become interstate Commercial Motor Vehicle drivers must be seen by a “Certified Medical Examiner”.

ALL Medical Examiners must be CERTIFIED and listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.

To become certified and listed on the National Registry, all healthcare providers who perform physical exams and issue medical certificates for CMV drivers are required to:

  • Complete an accredited certification training
  • Pass an exam
  • Register on the National Registry System
