Resolution of Condolence: Howard L. Platter, MD, FAAFP

WHEREAS, the Washington Academy of Family Physicians and medical community suffered a great loss when Howard L. Platter, MD, of Spokane passed away at age 81 on July 28, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Platter attended Gonzaga University and received his MD degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine, and was part of the first class of residents trained at the family medicine residency program in Spokane; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Platter was a physician with the US Navy during the Vietnam War and later served in the Army Reserves; and

WHEREAS, he was a career physician at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane and mentored many resident physicians and nurses during that time; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Platter was a member of the Inland Northwest Chapter’s executive board and a delegate or alternate delegate to the House of Delegates of the Washington Academy of Family Physicians for most of the past 30 to 40 years; and

WHEREAS, he had an incredible thirst for knowledge and could speak with authority on almost any subject; Dr. Platter would sometime have over 1,000 CME hours in a three-year time span, now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Washington Academy of Family Physicians celebrate the life and career of Dr. Howard L. Platter, and recognize his many contributions to the specialty of family medicine, and to the patients, trainees, and community he served, and be it further

RESOLVED, that the Washington Academy of Family Physicians expresses deep sorrow and sense of loss for the death of Dr. Howard L. Platter and send a copy of this resolution of condolence as an expression of deep sympathy and high professional regard to his family: wife Elaine, son Daniel (Cindy), daughter Laurie (Jessy), and granddaughter Brooke.
