CHAS Health Updates COVID Testing Protocol
Spokane, WA. October 29, 2020 – CHAS Health remains committed to serving our community by providing the majority of COVID testing access in our area. Due to increased volumes and fixed capacity, CHAS Health’s testing locations and times have changed. At this time, we are offering testing to individuals with symptoms or exposure.
Effective immediately, CHAS Health will offer COVID send-in testing to community members who meet the following criteria:
- Has COVID symptoms but not in the priority testing group (see below).
- Does not have COVID symptoms but qualifies for testing due to direct COVID exposure or those who are nursing home employees.
Those exposed and without symptoms may be tested 5-7 days after exposure, but not earlier. It is important to quarantine for 14 days after exposure regardless of the test result, as COVID may take up to 14 days from exposure to cause infection. Current turnaround time for send-in testing is 1-3 days.
Rapid testing is limited due to supplies and its accuracy in certain situations. The following priority testing group WITH SYMPTOMS can have a rapid test:
- Healthcare worker or first responder
- Lives in congregate facility
- Has had known, direct exposure to COVID
- Provider discretion
Testing is available at CHAS Health’s Spokane Urgent Care locations and some primary clinic locations. As testing volumes increase with COVID rates in the area, patients may have to wait depending on the day and location. Please know we must use medically appropriate testing criteria and prioritize rapid tests for those who need them most.
