The Washington Academy of Family Physicians (WAFP) is a 501(c) (6) organization that represents physicians, residents and medical students who specialize in family medicine. With more than 3,500 members, WAFP is the largest medical specialty organization in Washington. The Academy works to inform and support family physicians; influence the development of health care policy that will provide optimal health care for everyone in Washington state; promote interest in family medicine; and support efforts in Washington state medical schools and residency programs to provide high-quality family medicine education programs.
The WAFP is the Washington state chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
The Academy is governed by a Board of Directors which reviews and carries out Academy policy as developed by the Academy’s House of Delegates. WAFP members may serve on committees which study, analyze and make informed policy recommendations to the Board, as well as develop and administer programs that support family physicians and enhance the specialty. The Washington Academy of Family Physicians has 17 component chapters, each comprised of one or more counties, and two chapters specifically for resident and student members.
