AAFP members in the Active category in the 2019-2021 cycle will no longer be required to earn 25 CME credits through live activities, AAFP announced Tuesday. The change also affects members in the 2018-2020 cycle who received extensions through Dec. 31, 2021. The change is meant to eliminate confusion in reporting in-person CME activities that have transitioned to digital formats.
The requirement for 150 credits of CME every three years remains, as does the requirement that at least half of those credits are Prescribed credits.
The change is a result of member requests, which led to a joint proposal from the AAFP’s Commission on Membership and Members Services and the Commission on Continuing Professional Development. That proposal was accepted at the most recent meeting of the AAFP Board of Directors.
AAFP News has more on the decision and what it means for members.
