Successful completion of Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs) are required at each stage of the American Board of Family Medicine's (ABFM) Maintenance of Certification (MC-FP) for family physicians. SAMs are comprised of a 60-question Knowledge Assessment, and an online Clinical Simulation in a specific health topic. Family Medicine residents entering residency in 2012 will also be required to complete three SAMs throughout the course of their residency training.
Since 2007, WAFP has hosted SAM Workgroups, which allow the participant to complete the Knowledge Assessment Portion of the SAM in a stimulating and interactive group session. The clinical simulation portion of SAM is done later on the participants own time. Three sessions are typically offered at the WAFP Annual Scientific Assembly in May, and 2 to 4 sessions are offered in the fall at a rotating location. And new this year, the WAFP is able to help local chapters set up a SAM Workgroup day for their regional community.
